SAFETY ON TOUR
THE IMPORTANT BIT
At Fishies, we’re here to make memories- for all the right reasons. Your safety and wellbeing are a priority, and we take that responsibility seriously, from planning the tour to looking out for you while you’re away.
We want everyone to feel welcome, supported and confident asking for help. That means clear information, clear expectations and taking concerns seriously. Whether something doesn’t feel right or you’re worried about a mate, speak up - our 24/7 resort reps here to help.
Look after yourself, look out for your shoal, and take a moment to read the safety information below before we set sail.
THE TEAM & SAFETY PLANNING
Safety is part of our planning from the start. We carry out risk assessments, plan routes and transport, and work with accommodation and venue teams on local arrangements. Our experienced events and travel team genuinely care about students and want everyone to feel supported throughout the trip.
Our trained rep team is your first point of contact. You can also speak to your group leader, visit the Fishies HQ desk or approach our night staff during evening activities. Hotel staff and venue security can help with immediate concerns at their locations.
Our event venues have their own security arrangements and operate under their own safety procedures and risk assessments. Local security support is also available around the resort. Always follow instructions from reps, venue staff and security.
We hold group leader meetings on the first day to explain the trip, key safety information and how to get help. Students also receive lots of information before departure, with reminders and signs available around the resort.
Benidorm is an established holiday resort with extensive accommodation, transport, hospitality and healthcare facilities. We build our plans around those facilities, with mapped meeting points and planned routes to help you find your way. As with any busy resort, staying aware and looking out for your mates matters.
GETTING AROUND & STAYING CONNECTED
Our daily text service shares key information, meeting points and reminders. You’ll also have resort maps and information available through reps and the Fishies HQ desk. Keep your phone charged and make sure your booking has your correct mobile number.
The designated Fishies HQ desk gives you a clear place to ask questions or get support. Its location and opening hours will be shared before the trip, alongside information about where to find staff during the day and night.
Wristbands help our team identify Fishies students and manage access to included activities. Wear yours throughout the tour and speak to a rep if it is lost or damaged.
We have daily check-ins to stay connected with students and group leaders and give you opportunities to raise concerns. If you or a mate needs help, contact us straight away rather than waiting for the next check-in.
Where possible, travel in groups of three or more, use the planned routes and use our HQ area as a base. Check your event information for the exact pick-up and drop-off points, and ask a rep if you’re unsure.
INFO FOR PARENTS/SUPPORTERS
Students have access to our trained rep team, a designated Fishies HQ desk, staff supporting evening activities and local hotel and venue teams. Daily information, check-ins and first-day group leader meetings help students understand the arrangements and know where to turn for help.
We can explain general trip arrangements, but we can only discuss booking-specific information with the person who made the booking. Being a parent or paying towards the trip does not automatically give someone access to another adult’s booking or personal information.
The Fishies emergency line is reserved for students and group leaders needing urgent support during the trip. Parents should use our general contact channel so the emergency line remains available to those who need immediate help.
Try contacting the student directly and, where you have their details, a travelling friend or group leader. You can also raise your concern through our general contact channel. If you have reason to believe someone is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency services without waiting for a reply.
Encourage them to arrange suitable travel insurance, read the pre-departure information and save the emergency contacts. Agree a reasonable check-in plan together, and remind them to travel with friends and ask for help early. Our aim is to support students in enjoying the trip confidently and responsibly.
BEFORE YOU TRAVEL INFO
Yes. Every student must have suitable travel insurance for the full trip, including any activities they plan to take part in. We will check that you have cover, and you cannot travel with us without it. Read your policy carefully, including its exclusions, and keep your insurer’s emergency assistance details accessible.
We send essential information in advance, including emergency contacts, maps, meeting points, transport arrangements and practical advice. Read it before travelling, save the key details on your phone and share relevant information with your group.
Our privacy policy explains how we collect, use and protect your personal information, including information needed to organise your booking and support you during the trip. Please read it upon booking and tell us if your contact details change.
Read the daily text, charge your phone, wear your wristband and check your meeting points and return arrangements. Save the Fishies emergency number, carry the essentials you need and agree a plan with your mates. If anything is unclear, ask a rep before you leave or check in at our HQ.
HEALTH, EMERGENCIES & PART OF THE SHOAL
If someone is in immediate danger or needs urgent medical assistance, call 112, Spain’s emergency number. Contact the Fishies emergency phone as soon as it is safe to do so, so our team can help coordinate support. Save both numbers before travelling.
We provide local hospital and pharmacy contact information, and our reps can help you find appropriate services. Let a rep know if you need assistance. For urgent medical emergencies, call 112 first.
Speak to a rep or your group leader - you don’t need to wait until things feel unmanageable. Our team will listen and help you access appropriate support. You can take a break from activities whenever you need to; there’s no pressure to attend anything.
Check on your mates, respect their boundaries and help them get support if something feels wrong. Never leave someone alone if they seem seriously unwell, confused or unable to get back safely. Alert a rep, venue staff or security, and call 112 if urgent help is needed.
It’s when people assume somebody else will step in, so nobody does. If you see someone who may need help, take a safe, practical action: tell a rep, alert security or ask a specific person to call for assistance. You don’t need to put yourself at risk to make a difference.
